CONSTITUTION OF
KOREAN ASSOCIATION OF SANDPLAY THERAPY (KAST)



Chapter 1. General Provision

Article 1 (Name)
The name of association is ¡°Korean Association of Sandplay Therapy (KAST)¡±

Article 2 (Location)
The registered office is located at Damian Family Counseling Center 2nd fl, Hancheon-ro 46-gil 13, Dongdaemun-gu, Seoul, Republic of Korea

Article 3 (Purpose)
Korean Association of Sandplay Therapy (KAST) is dedicated to support and promote professional development in Sandplay Therapy through multidisciplinary training and research in related areas.

Article 4 (Goals)
The goals of Korean Association of Sandplay Therapy are:
a. To provide professional training and teaching of Sandplay Therapy
b. To organize seminars and workshops on Sandplay Therapy
c. To organize bi-annual academic conferences on Sandplay Therapy at which Teaching Members of other ISST Societies are present
d. To do research and publish articles on Sandplay Therapy
e. To cooperate with National and International organizations related to SandplayTtherapy
g. To propagate information and knowledge about Sandplay Therapy
h. To provide information about education, welfare, counseling , and psychotherapy
i. To execute projects which fulfill the goal of KAST


Chapter 2. Membership

Article 5 (Memberships)

1. Categories of memberships
There shall be four categories of membership in this organization:
a. Certified Sandplay Therapist
b. Certified Specialist of Sandplay Therapy (designed to complete training required for the certification process of ISST)
c. Certified Analyst of Sandplay Therapy
d. Certified Supervisor of Sandplay Therapy (designed to complete training required for the certification process of ISST Teaching Member)
All categories of membership and individuals training towards achieving these memberships are required to abide by the KAST Code of Ethics (see Chapter 8 below) and of ISST.
2. Requirements to become a member
Each category of memberships shall meet the membership qualifications which include the following requirements:
(1) Certified Sandplay Therapist
a. Completion of minimum 6 basic courses of Sandplay Therapy:
Introduction to Sandplay Therapy; Analytical Psychology; Developmental Psychology; Sandplay Therapy for Children, Adults, Couples and Families; Psychopathology; Play Therapy; Healthy Family Community.
b. Completion of the qualifying examination for Certified Sandplay Therapist.
c. Providing sandplay therpy with at least 6 clients.
d. Presenting at least 6 cases in the presence of KAST Certified Supervisor of Sandplay Therapist.
e. Attending at least 50 case presentations.
f. Submission of case materials on 6 cases: The files should be stored in a USB memory
g. Completion of a least 20 sessions of personal psychotherapeutic sandplay process with KAST Certified analyst of Sandplay Therapy or Certified Supervisor of Sandplay therapy.

(2) Certified Specialist of Sandplay Therapy
a. Certified Specialist of Sandplay Therapy should have obtained the status of Certified Sandplay Therapist before applying process for Certified Specialitst of Sandplay Therapy.
b. Certified sandplay therapists are eligible to apply for the Certified Specialist of Sandplay Therapy after completion of certification process.
c. Completion of 5 semesters (100 hours) of theoretical courses: Analytical Psychology; Dream Interpretation; Interpretation of Fairytales; Advanced in Sandplay Therapy. Applicants who started process before 2019 require 4 semsters of theoretical courses.
d. Completion of the qualifying examination for Certified Specialists of Sandplay Therapy.
e. Completion of at least 30 hours of individual supervision with Certified Supervisor of Sadplay Therapy and attending at least 80 case presenations after obtaining Certified Sandplay Therapist.
f. Providing a minimum of 30 cases of Sandplay Therapy after obtaining Certified Sandplay Therapist.
g. Presenting a least 4 case studies in the presence of KAST Certified Supervisor of Sandplay Therapist.
h. Submitting the case reports on 30 cases of sandplay therapy : The files should be stored in a usb memory. The cases should be terminated and at least 5 cases should be more than 25 sessions.
i. Completion of a minimum 20 sesseions of personal psychotherapeutic sandplay process with KAST Certified analyst of Sandplay Therapy or Certified Supervisor of Sandplay therapy.
j. Members obtained the status of Certified Specialist of Sandplay Therapy may apply for the status of ISST Certified Sandplay Therapist in accordance with the minimum requirements for ISST Membership as outlined in the ISST Rules of the procedure.

(3) Certified Analyst of Sandplay Therapy
a. KAST Board shall recommend candidates for Certified Analyst of Sandplay Therapy who have obtained both the status of Certified Specialist of Sandplay Therapist and a ISST Certified Sandplay therapist.
b. Completion of at least 8 semesters (200 hours) of theoretical courses included Analytical Psychology, Advanced in Sandplay Therapy and Interpretation of Fairytales, etc.
c. Providing personal analysis for Candidates of Sandplay Therapists and Specialist of Sandplay Therapy.

(4) Certified Supervisor of Sandplay Therapy
a. Candidates for Certified Supervisor of Sandplay Therapy shall be recommended by KAST board among those who have obtained both the status of Certified Analyst of Sandplay Therapist and ISST Certified Sandplay Therapist.
b. Completion of at least 10 semesters (250 hours) of theoretical courses included Analytical Psychology, Advanced in Sandplay Therapy and Interpretation of Fairytales.

Article 6 (Application process for Memberships)
1. Individuals who completed certification process may apply for the qualifying examination to obtain the status of certification. Individuals who passed the qualifying examination should submit the following documents with the stipulated examination fee. Required documents are degree certificates, proof of completion of training, copies of the related certificates of qualification. All materials of cases should be stored at USB memories
2. The qualifying examination helds twice a year.

Article 7 (Renewal the Membership)
Renewal of membership will require attendance of the academic Conferences by the KAST once a year.

Article 8 (Member¡¯s Rights)
Members of the KAST is entitled to vote for and to be elected to the Board and in all the bodies of the KAST.

Article 9 (Member¡¯s obligation)
Members of the KAST are obligated to comply with statutes and fulfill the decisions of the members¡¯ meeting and the Board.

Article 10 (Member¡¯s disciplinary action)
1. All categories of Members can be expelled by the decision of the KAST Board meeting if the member fails to fulfill their obligations and duties and/or defames the KAST and harms its reputation or properties.
2. All categories of Member can be expelled by the decision of the Board meeting if the member acts against the interest of KAST and its goals.

Article 11 (Legal Liability)
To protect the public and reduce legal liability to KAST, members are required to adhere to the KAST AND ISST code of ethics. KAST is not liable or responsible for any indemnities stemming from malpractice of its members.

Article 12 (Membership fee)
1. The General Meeting of the KAST shall have the power to alter any fees and subscriptions.
2. All KAST members will pay fees to the Association, the amount of which is determined by the Executive Committee. All members holding a status of ISST membership will need to pay both the KAST and ISST membership fee.

Article 13 (Membership Withdrawal Policy)
Withdrawal of membership shall be made in writing to the Secretary. The Secretary will inform the Executive Committee of the withdrawal of membership. Fees previously paid will not be refunded.


Chapter 3. Executive Committee

Article 14 (Structure of the Executive Committee)
The executive committee of KAST shall consist of the one president, one general secretary, and one auditor.

Article 15 (Election of Executive Members)
The Executive Committee is elected by the General Meeting and appointed by the chairperson. The Executive Committee members shall be elected for a two (2) year term and re-election is allowed.

Article 16 (Duties of Executive Committee)
1. The president shall serve as the chief executive officer of the KAST and has general supervision over the business of the association and over its several officer subjects. The president shall be responsible for the agenda of meetings and preside at all meetings of the Executive Committee. The president shall have the power on behalf of the association to execute all deeds and agreements.
2. The President of KAST will represent the society on the ISST Board. The President may appoint a deputy in their place should they be unable to attend. In addition a standing Deputy representative will be appointed by KAST Executive Committee.
3. The auditor examines financial and economic activities no less than once a year and prepares an annual financial report and presents it at the Board Meeting and General Meeting.

Article 17 (Vacancy of the Executive Committee)
Any vacancy arising in the Executive Committee shall be filled at the by-election and the supplementary member shall serve out the remainder of the term of office of the member they are replacing.

Article 18 (General Meeting)
1. The General Meeting consists of an Annual General Meeting and Extraordinary Meeting.
2. An Annual General Meeting shall be held in March of each year and Extraordinary Meeting shall be called by the Executive Committee or at the request of at least 1/3 of the members.
3. The General Meeting is convened by written notice to all the members at least 15 days prior to the meeting.
4. Resolutions of General Meeting consist of
a. Decisions on amendments of the Statutes
b. Proposal on annual budget and programs
c. Ratification of Annual report on financial activities and programs
d. Membership fee
e. Other significant events of KAST
5. At General Meeting, a quorum shall be formed by whatever number of voting members present. When the votes are tied, the chairperson can give a casting vote.


Chapter 4. The Board

Article 19 (The Structure of the Board)
1. The Board consists of the president, former president, a minimum forty (40) board members and the auditors.
2. The Board shall consist of the at least one general secretary to assist all business such as planning the agenda of the meeting, notifying the members of all meetings, and recording the proceedings of all meetings.
3. The auditors and general secretaries are allowed to speak but have no right to vote.

Article 20 (Board Meeting)
1. The Board Meeting consists of an Annual Board Meeting and Extraordinary Meeting. An Annual Board Meeting shall be held in January and August of each year and
2. Extraordinary Board Meeting shall be called by the president or at the request of at least 1/3 of the members.
3. The Board Meeting is convened by written notice to all the members at least 7 days prior to the meeting.
4. Resolutions of Board Meeting consist of
a. Decision on the business of KAST according to Article 2
b. Proposal on the annual budget and program
c. Planning or discontinuing activities and programs
d. Enactment and abolition of rules and regulations
e. Raising and managing the fund of KAST
f. Admission, award, and disciplinary action of the membership


Chapter 5. Local Branches

Article 21 (Local Branches)
1. KAST shall establish local branches.
2. Each Branch shall establish their own local Statutes which will be authorized by vote of the Executive Committee.


Chapter 6. Organizational Structure

Article 22 (Organizational Structure)
1. The organization of KAST consists of the departments of General Affairs; Planning; Accounting, and Research and Publication.
2. The Department of General Affairs is responsible for general office work, archiving all documents, financial affairs, and managing memberships.
3. The Department of Planning is responsible for planning, research, public relation, advertising, and international relationships.
4. The Department of Research and Publication is responsible for organizing conferences, seminars, and publication of academic journals.
5. Each department of KAST shall hire employees. The president appoints employees of KAST.

Article 23 (Finance and Accounting)
Financial means of KAST consists of Membership fees subsidies, donations and other income. The membership fee is agreed by the KAST Board and is reviewed from time to time. As an ISST Society, KAST will abide by the ISST Financial protocols.

Article 24 (Expenditure)
The use of finances means is determined by the budget which is approved at the General Meeting. Spending which exceeds the budget must be approved by the Executive Committee.

Article 25 (Fiscal year)
Fiscal year begins from the day of annual general meeting until the day of another annual general meeting.


Chapter 7. Editorial Committee

Article 26 (Editorial Committee)
1. The editorial committee consists of a minimum of fifteen (15) members and the chief editor.
2. The editorial committee shall be responsible for affairs such as submission of papers, appointing reviewers, notification of result, and publication.
3. The editorial committee shall appoint the reviewers depending on the contents of the papers.
4. The committee shall decide the acceptance of submitted papers.
5. The committee shall request the correction of submitted papers.


Chapter 8. Code of Ethics (in conjunction with the ISST Code of Ethics)

A. Professional Ability
1. Sandplay Therapists continue to pursue their supervision and clinical practice on the basis of theoretical knowledge about Sandplay Therapy. They practice only within the boundaries of their competence and use techniques for which they are qualified, based on their education, training, supervised experience, and appropriate professional experience.
2. Sandplay Therapists should not assert or suggest anything beyond their ability. They are obliged to modify it when their ability or qualification was misunderstood by others.
3. Problem of the countertransference of the therapist should be resolved through supervision and personal analysis.
4. Sandplay Therapists should always be sharply conscious of their own values and beliefs and their influences on their clients.
5. Sandplay Therapists let their clients know the goal, advantages and limitations, fees, and way of payment of Sandplay Therapy clearly.
6. Sandplay Therapists should act to avoid harming the values and authority of therapeutic profession for their personal interests.
7. Sandplay Therapists should not begin Sandplay Therapy when they cannot give an appropriate help to the clients because of their own limitations and/or personal problems. They must seek other competent professional assistance to refer the client to.
8. In appropriate termination of Sandplay Therapy. sandplay therapists must seek competent professional assistance to determine whether they should suspend, terminate, or limit the scope of their professional activities. When necessary, the client should be referred to another therapist through the appropriate procedure.
9. When Sandplay Therapists h?ave difficulties with the client, they should take into careful consideration the responsibility of the appropriate institutional authorities, value judgment of therapy, and their own limits

B. Protection of Clients
1. Sandplay Therapists are obliged to respect client rights to privacy and do not share confidential information without client consent or without sound legal or ethical justification.
2. Sandplay Therapists ensure that records are kept in a secure location and that only authorized persons have access to records. They should obtain permission of recording and writing from the client.
3. Sandplay Therapists must seek competent professional assistance when the client or the society is put in a dangerous situation as follows. At initiation of the Sandplay Therapy, they inform clients of the limitations of confidentiality.
a. In the case that the client's life or the safety of society is in danger
b. In the case that the client has the infectious disease
c. In the case that it is required that the information of the client be legally made public.
4. The information of the clients should be true and objective and the identity of clients must be protected when client material is used for supervision in professional settings. When the more concrete informations of the client should be presented, the permission should be obtained from the client.
5. When case material is used for education or case study, Sandplay Therapists should hold the permission from the client regarding the use of case material and the identity of the client must be protected.

C. Relationships with Clients
1. Sandplay Therapists recognize their intimate relations with the clients and respect them but they should not use the clients to satisfy their personal needs.
2. Sandplay Therapists should avoid dual relationships influencing on professional and objective judgment. But it is possible for the wellbeing of the clients and the consult or supervision with the agreement between therapist and client.
3. Sandplay Therapist should not have a sexual relationship with the client. When they had or continue to have a sexual relationship with the client, they should not have therapeutic relationships. They should not have sexual relationships with the client within a minimum of 2 years after the termination of the therapeutic relationships
