Welcome to Korean Association of Sandplay therapy

Korean Association of Sandplay Therapy (KAST) is non-profit professional organization to support professional development in Sandplay Therapy by promoting training, education and research, offering opportunities for professional exchange, and establishing guidelines for professional practices in the tradition of Dora Kalff based on the theories of C.G . Jung.

In 1992, the first meeting of Sr. Bo Ai Kim and Hayao Kawai paved the way of establishing Korean Association of Sandplay Therapy (KAST). Then, in 1993, Korean Institute of Sandplay Therapy, which was the origin of KAST, was launched where therapists explored and studied about Sandplay Therapy.

Since 1993, many foreign well-known ISST teachers have visited Korea to offer lectures, training, group and individual supervision, and personal process, which are contributing to the development of KAST. Especially, Hayao Kawai, Alexander Esterhuyzen, Kazuhiko Higuchi, Yamanaka Yasuhiro, Yasunobu Okada, Masayoshi Hironaka, Rie Rogers Mitchell, Betty Jackson, Sachiko Reece, and Toshio Kawai dedicated to develop KAST. As a result of commitment of many people, KAST was officially founded in 2004 and the 1st Anniversary Conference with Hayao Kawai took place in March 7, 2004 to celebrate the foundation of KAST.

KAST has achieved remarkable development over 27 years. Currently, KAST has about 6,000 members, including 90 ISST Certified Sandplay Therapists and 20 ISST Teaching Members. Since 2009, KAST has played a role as an umbrella organization which is affiliated with four regional societies to increase opportunities of professional training and development. The four regional societies are Gangwon Association of Sandplay Therapy, Youngnam Association of Sandplay Therapy, Honam Association of Sandplay Therapy, Chungcheong Association of Sandplay Therapy.
Numbers of professionals apply Sandplay Therapy as their treatment modality for their clinical works. Continuously mental professionals are getting interested in Sandplay Therapy has been increasing and beginning their Sandplay journey through KAST.
Working with people who feel devastated and exhausted in dismal times through Sandplapy Therapy is the most important mission of KAST. In order to accomplish our mission, members of KAST do their best to take good care of those who are marginalized, poor, and deficient in the dark side of society.
KAST will dedicate to work with those who are disoriented and struggling in their lives until the end of their lives. Also, Sandplay Therapists promise to be a companion of their clients from their hearts.
